RentVeed does not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party for monetary compensation or any other consideration. We do not share your personal data for third-party advertising purposes.

6.2 Service Providers

We share your personal data with third-party service providers who assist us in operating the Platform. Each service provider is contractually required to process your data only on our behalf, in accordance with our instructions, and in compliance with applicable data protection law. Our key service providers are:

6.3 Public Disclosure Within the Platform

When you post a listing, the information you include in the listing — including your display name, property description, photos, videos, price, location, and any contact information you choose to publish (phone number, WhatsApp number) — will be visible to all users of the Platform, including guests who have not registered an account. You should only include contact details in listings that you genuinely intend to make public. RentVeed is not responsible for any consequences arising from your voluntary disclosure of personal contact information in a listing.

In addition, the following information is publicly visible on your profile to all users, including guests: your display name, your profile bio (if you have added one), and your average star rating together with your total number of ratings. Individual star ratings are not displayed with the rater's name attached anywhere in the app. Your own referral history (the display names of people who signed up using your referral code, and the Coins you earned from each) is visible only to you, in your own "Invite Friends" screen — it is never shown to other users, and a person you referred is not shown who referred them.

6.4 Legal Disclosures

We may disclose your personal data to law enforcement agencies, government authorities, courts, or other competent authorities if we are required to do so by Applicable Law, court order, subpoena, search warrant, or similar legal process. We may also disclose data where we have a good-faith belief that disclosure is necessary to: (a) prevent or investigate a crime; (b) protect the safety of any person; (c) enforce our Terms of Service; or (d) protect the rights, property, or safety of RentVeed, its users, or the public. Where Applicable Law permits, we will attempt to notify you of such a legal disclosure before making it.

6.5 Business Transfers

If RentVeed is involved in a merger, acquisition, restructuring, sale of assets, bankruptcy, or similar corporate transaction, your personal data may be transferred to the acquiring or surviving entity as part of that transaction. We will notify you via in-app notice or email before your personal data is transferred to and becomes subject to a different privacy policy. You will be given the opportunity to delete your account before any such transfer if you do not wish your data to be transferred.

6.6 Aggregated and Anonymised Data

We may share aggregated, anonymised, or de-identified data (from which no individual can be identified) with partners, investors, researchers, or the public for purposes such as industry research, benchmarking, or improving the rental market in Cameroon. Such data does not constitute personal data and is not subject to this Privacy Policy.

7. International Data Transfers

RentVeed operates primarily in the Republic of Cameroon. However, because we use cloud infrastructure providers (including Supabase, Cloudflare, and Firebase/Google), your personal data may be stored on servers located in other countries, including the United States and the European Union. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from those in your home country.

When we transfer personal data internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards to protect your data, including:

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) and have questions about the specific safeguards applied to your data transfers, you may contact us at support@rentveed.com.

8. Data Retention

8.1 General Retention Principle

We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, including providing the Service, complying with legal obligations, resolving disputes, and enforcing our agreements. When we no longer need personal data, we will securely delete, anonymise, or destroy it.

8.3 Account Deletion

When you request deletion of your account, we will initiate a deletion process that removes your personal data from our active systems within thirty (30) calendar days. Some data may remain in encrypted backups for up to ninety (90) days before being permanently overwritten. Certain data may be retained beyond this period if required by Applicable Law (e.g., financial records for tax compliance) or for legitimate purposes such as preventing fraud by a user who was banned.

9. Your Rights

Regardless of where you live, RentVeed is committed to respecting the following rights in relation to your personal data:

9.1 Right to Access

You have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. Upon a verified request, we will provide you with a summary of your personal data in a commonly used, machine-readable format within thirty (30) calendar days (subject to extension if the request is complex).

9.2 Right to Rectification / Correction

You have the right to request that we correct any inaccurate or incomplete personal data we hold about you. You can update most of your account information directly in the app. For data that you cannot update yourself, please contact us.

9.3 Right to Erasure ("Right to Be Forgotten")

You have the right to request that we delete your personal data. We will honour such requests unless we are required to retain the data by Applicable Law or have a legitimate, overriding reason to retain it (such as preventing fraud). Erasure requests can be submitted by emailing us at support@rentveed.com.

9.4 Right to Restriction of Processing

In certain circumstances (such as while you contest the accuracy of your data, or while a complaint is being resolved), you may request that we restrict processing of your personal data rather than deleting it.

9.5 Right to Data Portability

You have the right to receive a copy of the personal data you have provided to us in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format, and to transmit that data to another controller. This right applies where processing is based on your consent or on a contract.

9.6 Right to Object

You have the right to object to processing of your personal data where we rely on legitimate interests as our legal basis, including for profiling. If we cannot demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for the processing that override your interests, rights, and freedoms, we will stop that processing.

9.7 Right to Withdraw Consent

Where we rely on consent as the legal basis for processing (e.g., for push notifications), you can withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.

9.8 Right Not to Be Subject to Automated Decision-Making

You have the right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing that produces legal or similarly significant effects for you. Please see Section 23 for more information about automated decision-making in our systems.

9.9 Exercising Your Rights

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at support@rentveed.com, specifying the right you wish to exercise and providing enough information for us to verify your identity (typically, your registered email address). We will not charge you for exercising your rights. We will respond within thirty (30) calendar days, or within any shorter period required by Applicable Law. In some cases, we may need to extend this period by a further two months due to the complexity or volume of requests, and will inform you if this is necessary.

9.10 Right to Lodge a Complaint

If you believe we have handled your personal data in a manner that violates Applicable Law, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the relevant data protection supervisory authority in your country. For users in the European Union, this would be the data protection authority in your EU member state. For users in Cameroon, this may involve competent judicial or administrative authorities in accordance with applicable national law.

10. Rights of Users in the European Economic Area (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or equivalent national legislation applies to our processing of your personal data. In addition to the general rights described in Section 9, you have specific rights under the GDPR:

10.1 Legal Bases for Processing

We rely on the following GDPR legal bases for processing your data:

10.2 Data Transfers Outside the EEA

As described in Section 7, your data may be transferred to countries outside the EEA. We rely on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission, or equivalent safeguards, for such transfers. You have the right to request a copy of the relevant transfer mechanism.

10.3 Right to Lodge a GDPR Complaint

EEA users have the right to lodge a complaint with their national data protection authority (Datenschutzbehörde, CNIL, ICO, etc.) if they believe we have processed their personal data in violation of the GDPR. We encourage you to contact us directly first so we have the opportunity to resolve your concern.

11. Rights of California Residents (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a resident of the State of California, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), grants you the following specific rights:

11.1 Right to Know

You have the right to request that we disclose: (a) the categories of personal information we have collected about you; (b) the specific pieces of personal information we hold; (c) the categories of sources from which we collected it; (d) the business or commercial purposes for collecting it; and (e) the categories of third parties with whom we shared it in the past 12 months.

11.2 Right to Delete

You have the right to request that we delete your personal information, subject to certain exceptions (e.g., where retention is required to complete a transaction, detect fraud, or comply with a legal obligation).

11.3 Right to Opt Out of Sale / Sharing

RentVeed does not sell your personal information as defined by the CCPA, nor do we share it for cross-context behavioural advertising purposes. Therefore, no opt-out mechanism is required for this specific right. If this practice changes, we will update this policy and provide an opt-out mechanism.

11.4 Right to Correct Inaccurate Information

You have the right to request correction of inaccurate personal information we hold about you.

11.5 Right to Limit Use and Disclosure of Sensitive Personal Information

To the extent we process any sensitive personal information as defined by the CPRA, we limit such processing to what is necessary to provide the Service.

11.6 Non-Discrimination

We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA/CPRA rights. You will receive the same quality of service and pricing regardless of whether you exercise these rights.

11.7 Submitting a CCPA Request

To submit a California privacy rights request, please email us at support@rentveed.com with the subject line "California Privacy Rights Request". We may need to verify your identity before processing the request. We will respond within forty-five (45) calendar days, with the possibility of a 45-day extension if needed.

12. Rights of Users in Other Jurisdictions

RentVeed respects the privacy rights of users in all jurisdictions, including but not limited to:

If you live in a jurisdiction with specific privacy rights not described elsewhere in this policy and you have questions about how those rights apply to your data, please contact us.

13. Children's Privacy (COPPA and Equivalent Laws)

13.1 Age Restrictions

The Service is not directed at children under the age of thirteen (13), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you are under 13, you must not use the Service or provide us with any personal data.

13.2 Users Between 13 and 17

Users between the ages of 13 and 17 may browse the Platform under parental supervision but may not create accounts, post listings, make purchases, or engage in any activity that requires an account. If we become aware that a user under 18 has created an account or made a purchase, we will terminate the account, delete the data, and refund any purchases where feasible.

13.3 Parental Rights

If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided us with personal data without your consent, please contact us immediately at support@rentveed.com. We will take prompt steps to investigate and delete such data.

13.4 Compliance with COPPA

The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) applies to websites and online services directed at children under 13 in the United States. While our Service is not directed at children, we comply with COPPA's requirements to the extent it may apply, and we do not knowingly collect, use, or disclose personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.

14. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

14.1 Web Application Cookies

When you access the RentVeed web application at rentveed.com, we and our service providers may use cookies and similar web technologies. A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a web server. The types of cookies we use include:

Cookie typePurposeCan you opt out?
Strictly necessary Essential for the web app to function (authentication session, security tokens) No — these are required for the Service to work
Functional Remember your preferences (language, theme) Yes — but doing so may affect your experience
Analytics Understand how users interact with the web app (page views, session duration) — data is aggregated and anonymous Yes — contact us to opt out

14.2 Mobile App Local Storage

The RentVeed mobile app uses local device storage (specifically, the Hive library) to store preferences and cached data on your device. This data remains on your device and is not a cookie. You can clear this data by uninstalling the app or clearing the app's data through your device settings.

14.3 Google Sign-In Tracking

The Google Sign-In JavaScript library, loaded on the web app, may set cookies or use browser storage as part of Google's authentication flow. Please refer to Google's Privacy Policy for information about how Google handles data collected through its authentication services.

14.4 Managing Cookies

You can manage or disable cookies through your web browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block cookies, delete existing cookies, or be notified when a cookie is set. Please note that disabling certain cookies may prevent you from using some features of the web application. For mobile apps, cookie management is not applicable; local data can be cleared through device settings.

15. Push Notifications

If you grant the RentVeed app permission to send you push notifications, we may send notifications about: new property listings that match your preferences; responses or activity related to your listings; system alerts, maintenance notices, and security warnings; and optional promotional notifications about features, promotions, or community events.

Push notifications are delivered using Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) from Google. To deliver notifications to your specific device, we store your unique FCM device token in our database. This token is associated with your account and device and is used solely for delivering notifications to you.

You can withdraw your consent to receive push notifications at any time by: (a) adjusting notification permissions in your device's Settings app under the RentVeed app; or (b) toggling notification preferences within the RentVeed app itself. Withdrawing consent does not delete your account or any other data.

16. Google Sign-In and Third-Party Authentication

RentVeed offers Google Sign-In as an optional authentication method. If you choose to sign in with Google, Google will authenticate you and share certain information with us, including your name, email address, and profile photo. The information shared is determined by Google's OAuth consent screen, which you review and approve at the time of sign-in.

We use this information to: create or identify your RentVeed account; populate your display name and profile photo; and verify that your email address is associated with an active Google account. We do not access your Google contacts, Google Drive, Google Calendar, or any other Google services beyond what is listed in the consent screen.

By using Google Sign-In, you also agree to Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. RentVeed is not responsible for Google's data practices. You can revoke RentVeed's access to your Google account at any time through your Google Account settings at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

17. Payment Data

All payments within RentVeed (for Coins, Access Pass, or any future paid feature) are processed by NotchPay, our third-party payment processor. RentVeed does not collect, store, or have access to your payment card details, mobile money account credentials, PINs, or any other sensitive payment information. This data goes directly from your device to NotchPay's secure payment environment, governed by their PCI-DSS compliance programme and their own privacy policy.

We do receive from NotchPay a transaction confirmation (including transaction ID, amount, currency, and timestamp) for the purpose of crediting Coins to your account and maintaining transaction records for our financial and legal compliance obligations. This transaction metadata is stored securely and is not shared with any third party except as required by Applicable Law.

18. User-Generated Content and Listings

When you post a listing, the personal information you include in that listing — such as your phone number, WhatsApp number, and display name — is made publicly available on the Platform to all users, including unregistered visitors browsing rentveed.com. You have full control over what personal contact information you include in listings.

We encourage you not to include sensitive personal information (such as your home address, national ID number, or financial account details) in any listing or public profile. Any personal information you voluntarily include in public areas of the Platform may be read, collected, or used by third parties over whom RentVeed has no control.

If you wish to remove a listing and the personal information it contains, you can delete the listing at any time from within the app. Deleted listing data will be removed from the Platform within the timeframe described in Section 8.

18.1 Ratings and Reviews

RentVeed allows users to rate other users' accounts on a five-star scale, typically after interacting with their listings or service profile. When you submit a rating, we store your account ID (the rater), the account ID of the person you rated, the star value, and the date. The average rating and total number of ratings for an account are shown publicly on that user's profile to all users of the Platform, including guests. Individual ratings are not displayed with the rater's name attached anywhere in the app — only the aggregate score and count are public. You may rate a given user only once; submitting a new rating for the same person updates your existing one rather than adding a second. You cannot rate your own account.

18.2 Referral Program

RentVeed gives each user a unique referral code, viewable and shareable from the "Invite Friends" screen. If someone enters your code when creating their account, a record is created containing your account ID, the new user's account ID and display name, the Coins awarded, and the date. This record is shown only to you, in your own referral history — it is not shared with anyone else, and the person you referred is not shown who referred them. A referral can credit its owner at most once per new account, no matter how many times the code is reused.

18.3 Profile Bio

You may optionally add a short free-text biography to your profile, editable at any time from Account Settings. Your bio is displayed publicly on your profile to all users of the Platform, including guests. Please do not include sensitive personal information (such as your home address, national ID number, or financial details) in your bio — the same guidance in the paragraph above applies to it.

19. Security Measures

We take the security of your personal data seriously and implement a range of technical and organisational measures to protect it against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include:

Important limitation: No method of transmission over the internet, and no method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. While we use commercially reasonable security measures, we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your personal data. In the event of a security breach affecting your data, we will notify you in accordance with our obligations under Applicable Law and as described in Section 20 below.

20. Data Breach Notification

In the event of a personal data breach that is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, RentVeed will:

Our breach notification will include: the nature of the breach, the categories and approximate number of individuals affected, the likely consequences of the breach, and the measures we have taken or propose to take to address it.

21. Third-Party Services and Their Privacy Practices

The RentVeed Platform integrates with a number of third-party services. While we take care to select reputable, privacy-conscious providers, each of these services operates under its own privacy policy and terms of service. We strongly recommend that you review the privacy policies of each service that processes your data in connection with RentVeed:

RentVeed is not responsible for the data practices of any third-party service provider, and this Privacy Policy does not cover data collected directly by any third party. If you have questions about how a third party uses your data, you should contact that third party directly.

22. Social Media and Community Channels

RentVeed operates an official WhatsApp community channel. Participation in this channel is voluntary and is subject to WhatsApp's own Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Any information you share in the WhatsApp community (including your phone number, which is visible to other channel members, and any content you post) is not under RentVeed's direct control and is governed by WhatsApp's policies. Please exercise care about what personal information you share in any community channel or social media forum.

RentVeed may maintain accounts or pages on social media platforms (such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter/X). Information you provide to us through social media platforms (such as direct messages or comments) is subject to those platforms' own privacy policies. We may use information you provide through social media to respond to your enquiries, but we will not use it for any other purpose without your consent.

23. Automated Decision-Making

RentVeed uses automated systems for certain limited purposes, including:

We do not use your personal data for fully automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you without the involvement of a human reviewer, except to the extent required to maintain security and prevent fraud. Where automated decisions significantly affect you, you have the right to request human review, express your point of view, and contest the decision. Please contact us at support@rentveed.com if you believe an automated decision has been made about you in error.

24. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Some web browsers include a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal that indicates a user's preference not to be tracked across websites. The RentVeed web application does not currently respond to DNT signals because there is no universally accepted standard for how such signals should be interpreted, and our web application does not employ cross-site tracking by default.

If your browser supports and has enabled the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we will treat this as a signal of your preference not to have your data shared for targeted advertising purposes. Since we do not engage in targeted advertising, this signal has no practical effect on your RentVeed experience, but we acknowledge and respect it.

25. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our data practices, Applicable Law, or the features of the Service. When we make material changes, we will:

Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of the updated policy constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. If you do not agree to the updated policy, you must stop using the Service and may request account deletion as described in Section 8.3.

We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Previous versions of this policy may be requested by contacting us.

26. Contact Us and Data Protection Officer

If you have any questions, concerns, or requests relating to this Privacy Policy or to our handling of your personal data, please contact us:

We do not currently appoint a formal external Data Protection Officer (DPO). Privacy-related enquiries are handled by our team directly and we are committed to addressing all such enquiries within fourteen (14) calendar days.

If you are an EEA user and are unsatisfied with our response to your privacy concern, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority in your EU member state. You can find a list of EU supervisory authorities at edpb.europa.eu.
